On the 4th of July, 2010 we entered 2 teams in the 1st Annual TAE Team Championships, hosted by Mr. McKenna 6th Degree in Kenton, Newcastle. Both teams did fantastically well, in the largest division (the 8-13's) at the competition. The Green Mean Fighting Machine took gold in team patterns and came close in sparring and jump kicking to getting further in the competition. The Dan Gun Busters won their first 2 rounds in team patterns before losing by a slim margin in the next round. They also fought well in the sparring earning a bronze medal and did well in jump kicking. The teams are as follows: The Green Mean Fighting Machine: Jordan Spooner, Amy Hullock, Kyle Ryder, Adam Hill and Lauren Bainbridge. Dan Gun Busters: Darryl Thwaites, Jamie Parker, Matthew Blackman, Ryan Hogg and Zoe Hullock. Zoe and Adam were awarded a baseball cap with the ITF logo imprinted on the front, for their efforts as team captains, by their coaches Di and Fraser. Because we have a lot of keen competitors in our school; we've put together a table to help you keep track of your progress throughout the year. This will also make choosing some of our end of year awards, such as best overall competitor, best in sparring, patterns, jump kicking and power, an easier task, as we can just refer to this table. My name is Amy, I'm 11 years old and I started TKD PTKD in 2004 as part of the little ninjas programme. I first found out about the school when my friend Courtney told me about the classes and I wanted to give it a try because I had always wanted t do a martial art and I thought it would be fun.
I'm now a green belt blue stripe, HALFWAY TO BLACK BELT!!
I really enjoy going to competitions and doing sparring. I also like sparring because it is fun and energetic. I also like self-defencebecause it teaches y ou how to defend yourself when needed and I also like taking people down!! Tae-Kwon-do also keeps you fit and helps you make new friends.
Amy's instructor Mr. Ian Rigg states - "Amy is Penrith TKD School's most decorated competitor to date; winning numerous competitions and best overall competitor trophies. When Amy brings her medals to show and tell, she looks a bit like Mr. T, with all the gold around her neck."
